In brief: Hawthorne’s neutral ground has a host. James Whitmore (Tremere) keeps Elysium civil — no violence, no casual Masquerade breaks, no poaching the kine in the house. Cross the Keeper, and you may lose more than a night’s comfort.
James Whitmore
Court talk paints him as charismatic and perfectly groomed — a Tremere who reads like a PR executive as easily as a chantry man. Neonates meet him as the face of the venue: stage manager and bouncer at once, keeping the appearance of Camarilla unity even when the Primogen are at each other’s throats.

What You Were Taught
- Elysium is where Camarilla Kindred are supposed to be civil. The Keeper enforces that peace.
- No feeding on Elysium grounds without explicit permission. No steel, fire, or obvious Disciplines in the salon.
- Whitmore also runs the local chantry in neonate gossip — magic and business combined — but on presentation night his relevant face is the house.
- He is not the Harpy: one guards place; the other guards reputation.
Which side doors exist, who is already banned, and what evidence he is sitting on are not neonate knowledge. Respect the velvet rope.
How His Court Works (Public Face)
What you can safely assume before you take the floor:
- House rules, hours, and who may enter under what conditions sit with the Keeper.
- Masquerade breaks and brawling in Elysium are his specialty beat — often with the Harpy for social slights and the Sheriff for ejection or arrest.
- Catching a Masquerade breach in Elysium can cost permanent Status — narratively heavy when used justly.
- The Sheriff is immune to the Keeper’s positional powers; that friction is politics, not a license for either to ignore Traditions.
The Office
The Keeper of Elysium is guardian of the neutral ground: the Prince’s host when blood is not to be spilt. The office defines and protects Elysia — museums, opera houses, private estates, wherever the domain agrees — sets house rules, and stops public feeding, brawling, and displays that endanger the Masquerade. The Keeper hosts grand gatherings, helps introduce neonates, and keeps the appearance of Camarilla unity even when the council is at war. Cross the Keeper on the floor, and you may lose standing as well as comfort. James Whitmore holds that office in Phoenix. Hawthorne is his stage; you are a guest until proven otherwise.
